Pregnancy ultrasound
Ultrasound helps assess your pregnancy and your baby’s development. Different scans answer different clinical questions; one scan does not replace all other assessments.
- Dating and early pregnancy scans: assess early pregnancy and help establish gestational age.
- Nuchal translucency (NT) assessment: an ultrasound measurement used as part of first-trimester screening when appropriate.
- Anomaly scan: a detailed assessment of fetal anatomy. Not every condition can be identified by ultrasound.
- Growth and well-being scans: assess growth and other indicators according to your referral.
- Fetal echocardiography: a focused assessment of the fetal heart when recommended.
- 3D and 4D imaging: additional views that may complement an ultrasound assessment when clinically useful. They do not replace a detailed diagnostic examination.
Your clinician will advise the appropriate scan and timing for your pregnancy.
Prenatal screening & diagnosis
Screening estimates the chance of certain conditions. A screening result is not a diagnosis, and a low-risk result does not exclude every condition.
- Combined screening: brings together ultrasound findings, blood-test results and relevant maternal information to estimate risk.
- Non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT): a maternal blood screening test for selected chromosomal conditions. Results may require further assessment or diagnostic confirmation.
- Diagnostic procedures: chorionic villus sampling, amniocentesis or fetal blood sampling may be discussed for particular indications.
- Genetic counselling: helps you understand the purpose, scope and limitations of testing and consider your options.
Before an invasive procedure, your clinician should discuss its indication, possible risks, alternatives and consent requirements.
Fetal medicine & therapy
A fetal medicine assessment may be recommended after an unexpected scan finding, a screening result or a concern about fetal growth or well-being. Assessment and counselling help establish what is known and what further investigation may be useful.
The centre’s listed services include assessment for fetal therapy, including intrauterine transfusion, selected fetal rhythm or thyroid conditions, and procedures involving amniotic fluid. These are specialised interventions, not routine pregnancy treatments.
For complex or multifetal pregnancies, any discussion of fetal reduction requires individual specialist assessment, counselling, informed consent and compliance with applicable law. Contact the centre to confirm the relevant specialist and current procedure availability.
Fertility & gynaecological scans
Ultrasound can support assessment of reproductive and pelvic health alongside your symptoms, examination and other investigations.
- Ovulation studies and fertility-related ultrasound.
- Assessment of uterine anatomy and fibroid mapping.
- Pelvic ultrasound for gynaecological concerns.
- Sonosalpingography, where appropriate, to assess fallopian tube patency.

Specialist counselling & further assessment
When findings are unexpected, you may need time and clear information to understand them. Counselling can cover the significance of results, available investigations and the questions to discuss with your treating obstetrician.

Can an ultrasound rule out every condition?
No. Ultrasound provides important information, but not every condition is visible or detectable. The scope and limitations depend on the scan, the stage of pregnancy and other factors. Your clinician will explain the findings.
Does a high-risk screening result mean my baby has a condition?
Not necessarily. Screening estimates risk rather than confirming a diagnosis. Your clinician may discuss counselling, further assessment or diagnostic testing.
Do I need a referral?
If your obstetrician has recommended a scan or procedure, bring the referral and previous reports. Call the centre to confirm the requirements for your appointment.
Are all procedures suitable for every pregnancy?
No. Suitability depends on the clinical indication, stage of pregnancy, medical history and individual assessment. Confirm the relevant specialist and service availability before visiting.
